When something you love doing comes to an end, it can be challenging, but after 43 years of dedicated service at Barkuma, Ann felt it was time to retire, and she couldn’t be more excited for the adventures ahead.
Ann started her career at Barkuma 43 years ago and soon got into the routine of waking up at 5 am daily to prepare for work. Fast forward to today, and the decision to take time for herself was exhilarating. While the thought of not seeing her colleagues daily was a little sad, she can now look forward to enjoying a much-deserved sleep-in and a new opportunity to tick off those bucket list items that she regularly postponed.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that Ann stepped into work for the last time, and from the get-go, it was evident that her colleagues would miss her passion for the job, sense of humour, and friendship. A celebration and farewell party recognising her work achievements allowed her co-workers and friends to join in toasting her contributions, made even more special by a presentation of a beautiful arrangement of flowers, chocolates and a personalised canvas with signatures and messages of good wishes to remember everyone and display proudly at home.
Ann has looked forward to retirement for a while and, since her announcement, has enjoyed keeping her three housemates updated with current affairs from around the globe. After chatting with Ann to find out what she would like to do now, she replied, “My favourite TV shows are Bondi Vet and Bondi Rescue”, so she would “love to visit Sydney and check out where the shows are filmed”. Who knows, Ann, you may get a glimpse of them filming. She also loves animals and looks forward to visiting Taronga Zoo and its wonderful exhibits.
While Ann and our Client Engagement team make that happen, she continues to use her well-earned time off to live life to the fullest by exploring her desires with regular group and individual activities and connecting with her local community.
