The perfect match
DLi Client Nasrin has the coveted position of Volunteer in the Animal Enrichment Program at the Adelaide Zoo. With her one-to-one DLi LiveAbility Support Worker Elise by her side, they regularly attend and create animal enrichment treats. Nasrin and Elise both share a passion for photography, so Elise has been passing on some great tips when Nasrin takes time out to document her experience at the zoo. Nasrin loves that through their joint passions and interests, Elise is matched to support her and said,
“Elise is great to be with, and I feel like I’m with a friend. She loves working with animals and takes photos, just like me. I have learnt lots of things from her, and she’s there to support me at the zoo if I’m not sure of something. She’s also connected me with fantastic opportunities like the 2022 NDSP art exhibition, where I displayed and sold some of my zoo photos. That was an amazing experience.”
Being familiar with zoo staff means they are often lucky enough to get a front-row seat to the exciting developments constantly happening at the zoo, which most of us only hear about on the evening news. They have seen numerous zoo babies, which is always a thrill, but the most recent addition of Tiger cubs stole their hearts!
They were also extremely privileged to meet one of the zoo’s rare and exotic rehabilitation animals. The zoo recently assisted a Green Sea Turtle rescued off the coast at Middleton. Zoo staff invited Nasrin to meet the turtle named Paddy and got to touch the shell of this beautiful creature. Paddy has since been released back into the wild, with a satellite tracker attached so zoo staff can gain valuable data and track her progress. If you would like to read more about Paddy, read the ABC News story here!
